One of the easiest ways I’ve learned to practice meditation is by putting on a song I like, sitting down, closing my eyes, and breathing until it’s over.
Of course, lots of thoughts arise when I get still. I do what Pema Chödrön teaches and I just say, “Thinking,” to myself when I realize that’s what’s going on. Then I gently return to noticing my breathing or listening to the lyrics of whatever song is playing.
While doing a one song meditation, I love the album Heart Beats from Monique Rhodes, which features speakers including Danielle LaPorte, Thich Nhat Hanh, Tara Brach, Eckhart Tolle, and Carolyn Myss over music. This afternoon, post four mile walk, a nap, candle lighting, and palo santo smudging, I listened to Mark Nepo’s featured track from Heart Beats, “Finding Joy,” for three minutes and fifty-seven seconds of easy practice.
Doing a one song meditation is such a good reset for me.
