The solar plexus chakra is all about confidence.
Also known as the third chakra, the solar plexus chakra is located between your belly button and your heart. The color associated with the solar plexus chakra is yellow. This chakra is centered around feeling comfortable with yourself, which then allows you to feel groovy with other people too.
When I first started off on my personal journey through the chakras, the solar plexus chakra held lots of space for growth and opportunity to get more balance in my life. When I scanned through my body during meditation, my solar plexus chakra felt cloudy.
My plan to deal with that murkiness was to douse myself in compassion and then take action on the following solar plexus chakra suggestions.
When it comes to the solar plexus chakra, self confidence is the name of the game.
MAKE PHYSICAL SPACE FOR YOUR HEALING – When I feel murky and uncertain, my primary aim is to not judge myself. Instead, I need to cultivate trust in myself and the process of healing. If I want new information, feelings, and experiences to appear in my life, I need to make space for my future to show up.
Decluttering our physical spaces is imperative to healing around the solar plexus chakra. Feeling comfortable and safe in your living environment will directly to relate to your experience of feeling confident and at home living in your human body. My favorite supportive resource on this topic is Marie Kondo’s book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing.
MAKE MENTAL SPACE FOR YOUR HEALING – If I’m watching TV all the time or spending hours scrolling through my Instagram feed, then I’m numbing myself from the ability to recognize cries for help from my body, intuition guiding me to make changes, or wonderful synchronicities that are trying to improve my life. I want to make space to hear the inner knowing and wisdom that my body is sharing with me instead of filling up on unfulfilling white noise in my life. Here are some resources for giving your brain and soul a break:
GET RIGHT WITH YOUR FOOD – So, if you’re paying attention, you’ve noticed that the solar plexus chakra is in the digestive zone of your body. The following symptoms can be the voice of our bodies begging us to be more mindful about what we’re eating and how we’re behaving around nutrition: gas, cramping, #2 bathroom issues, and acne on the face (because that can be connected to problems with the large intestine and colon).
Eating lots of lemon juice, bananas, turmeric, and fermented foods like miso, sauerkraut, and kimchi are great options for solar plexus chakra health.
GUT HEALTH & MENTAL HEALTH – Do you have mental health issues? There’s so much research showing that the ecosystem of our guts can hold the key to many mental illness troubles. This article from The Atlantic has lots of great researched links on the topic:
Scientists have found that gut bacteria produce neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and GABA, all of which play a key role in mood (many antidepressants increase levels of these same compounds). Certain organisms also affect how people metabolize these compounds, effectively regulating the amount that circulates in the blood and brain. Gut bacteria may also generate other neuroactive chemicals, including one called butyrate, that have been linked to reduced anxiety and depression. Cryan and others have also shown that some microbes can activate the vagus nerve, the main line of communication between the gut and the brain. In addition, the microbiome is intertwined with the immune system, which itself influences mood and behavior.
I urge you to welcome medical practitioners into your life who understand this research and who can point you in the right direction for gut health that supports your mental health.

AFFIRM YOUR ENOUGH-NESS – Working with the solar plexus chakra draws so much on just accepting and loving yourself through whatever is coming up. As Matt Kahn says, whatever arrises, love that. Working with the following affirmations have helped me to grow into the self-confidence that I am worthy of existing, worthy of love, and that I don’t need anyone else to translate between me and Life — that channel is always open to me.
– I know enough. I have enough. I am enough.
– I’m willing to be friends with myself.
– Life loves me and I love life.
DOING ESTIMABLE ACTS LEAD TO SELF-ESTEEM – Self-confidence and self-esteem are cousins, yes? I’ve been taught that the best way to deal with low self-esteem is to start doing estimable acts. Really simple suggestions include holding doors open for other people, doing your roommate’s dirty dishes without fanfare, and sticking to commitments, i.e. if you say you’re gonna be somewhere, be there. As you do small kind actions out in the world, you’ll start to collect more evidence that you’re an okay person, which can lead to some legit confidence in who you are and how you’re showing up in the world.
MAKE A THIRD CHAKRA VISION BOARD – Grab some old magazines and find images that inspire confidence in your being. You can also go digital and make a solar plexus chakra vision board on Pinterest. My images include sunflowers, daffodils, roses, dandelions, light bulbs, candles, citrine, yellow artwork, butterflies, autumn leaves, tiger’s eye stones, sexy women in yellow dresses, lions, art supplies, quotes on confidence, honeycomb, pineapples, bananas, lemons, and Big Bird.
MUSIC FOR CONFIDENCE – Throw together a playlist of songs that make you feel YES about life, about yourself, and about right now. If you need to borrow some tunes, here’s my solar plexus playlist.
YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW – Do the other activities that we’ve been talking about with the other chakras, but focussed on the third chakra like: eat yellow foods, wear yellow clothes, and make a solar plexus alter with all of your yellow items around the house. Have fun!
